The Cape Romain region of South Carolina has the largest wintering concentration of American Oystercatchers on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. For the past 10 years Felicia and her research team have examined nesting, feeding habitats, nocturnal roosts, and movement patterns of this charismatic shorebird. Felicia Sanders has a B.S. in Zoology from Duke University and M.S. in Biology from Clemson University. She joined the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in 2001 and leads South Carolina’s Coastal Bird Projects. She has worked on many avian species including red-cockaded woodpeckers, bald eagles, and wood storks, but currently is focusing on shorebirds and seabirds.
