PACIFIC LOON
hotline: Georgia Rare Bird Alert The following is a summary of the Georgia Rare Bird Alert (RBA) Thursday evening telephone report, April 28, 2011. The RBA is a service of the Georgia Ornithological Society. Jeff Sewell is the voice of the RBA.
Two immature PACIFIC LOONs were seen at Lake Lanier along the
Gwinnett Co./Forsyth Co./Hall Co. line on 04/27.and were seen again
on 04/28.
An adult PACIFIC LOON in full breeding plumage was also seen at Lake
Lanier on 04/28.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen at Centennial Olympic Park in
downtown Atlanta on 04/26 and subsequently relocated on 04/28, this
time with a BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.
A nice selection of shorebirds were seen at the E.L. Huie Land
Application Facility in Clayton Co. on 04/23, including SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and WILSON'S SNIPE. A report from 04/28 adds
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER to the collection. The facility is currently
experiencing good conditions for shorebirding.

Two immature PACIFIC LOONs were seen at Lake Lanier along the
Gwinnett Co./Forsyth Co./Hall Co. line on 04/27.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen at Centennial Olympic Park in
downtown Atlanta on 04/26 and subsequently relocated on 04/28, this
time with a BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.
A large flock of WHIMBRELs was seen at Gould's Inlet on St. Simon's
Island in Glynn Co. on 04/24, and more were seen overflying the pier
area on St. Simon's on 04/26.
RED KNOTs were seen at Wolf Island National Wildlife Refuge in
McIntosh Co.
A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen at Cooper Creek Park in Columbus on
04/26.
A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was seen on the Andrews Island Causeway in
Glynn Co. on 04/24.
A LARK SPARROW was seen in the Chattahoochee Hill Country portion of
South Fulton Co. on 04/24.
An early MOURNING WARBLER was seen on 04/19 in Bartow Co.
A KING RAIL was seen at Constitution Lakes in Atlanta on 04/18.
A LINCOLN'S SPARROW was seen in Clarke Co. on 04/20.
A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen on Little St. Simon's Island in
Glynn Co.
Seven SURF SCOTERS were seen at Lake Varner in Newton Co. on 04/22.
Two Anhingas were seen at the pond in Dawson Forest in Dawson Co.
One Anhinga was seen at Dyars Pasture WMA in Greene Co. All three
were seen on 04/22.
A blue-phase SNOW GOOSE and a dozen BOBOLINKs were seen off of
Braswell Church Rd. in Walton Co. on 04/22.
Two MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen from the Chattahoochee Nature Center
in Fulton Co. on 04/23.
An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Floyd Co. on 04/21.

A BLACK-NECKED STILT was seen at the E.L. Huie Land Application
Facility in Clayton Co. on 04/10.
Four FORSTER'S TERNs were seen at the Buford Dam on the Forsyth
Co./Gwinnett Co. line on 04/15. In addition, a single CASPIAN TERN
was seen at Tidwell Park in Forsyth Co. on 04/15.
Three male BOBOLINKs were seen at the Nash Farm Park in Henry Co. on
04/15
Twenty species of Warblers were seen at the Kennesaw Mountain
National Battlefield Park in Cobb Co. on 04/14.
Seventeen species of Warblers were seen at the State Botanical
Gardens in Clarke Co. on 04/15.
A SWALLOW-TAILED KITE was seen in Tattnall Co. on 04/13.
A Blue-phase SNOW GOOSE continues off of Braswell Church Road in
Walton Co.
A PEREGRINE FALCON and 18 species of WARBLERs were observed at the
State Botanical Gardens in Athens in Clarke Co. on 04/13. An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen at the Phinizy Swamp Nature Preserve on 04/13.
Four CASPIAN TERNs were seen at Carter's Lake in Murray Co. on
04/09.
A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Putnam Co. on 04/17.

A blue-phase SNOW GOOSE was seen off of Braswell Church Rd. in
Morgan Co. on 04/09.
A LIMPKIN was seen at the Okeefenokee Swamp on 04/06.
An AMERICAN BITTERN seen at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens in
Clarke Co. on 04/06 has not been seen again
Sixteen species of Warblers were seen at the State Botanical Gardens
in Athens in Clarke Co. on 04/09, including three CERULEAN WARBLERs.

An UPLAND SANDPIPER and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER were among the
birds seen in Morgan Co. on 04/05.
An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen at the State Botanical Gardens in
Athens in Clarke Co. on 04/06.
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen at Cardinal Lake in Gwinnett Co.
on 04/04, but were not seen later in the day.
Many AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen in several locations during
an aerial survey along the coast on 04/04.
An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen on 04/02 at the Bradley Unit of
the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge in Stewart Co.
An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen at the Altamaha National Waterfowl
Management Area in McIntosh Co. on 04/01.
A possible AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen at the E.L. Huie Land
Application Facility in Clayton Co. on 04/01.
A STILT SANDPIPER was seen at the E.L. Huie Land Application
