The Georgia Ornithological Society Checklist and Records Committee requests that documentation be submitted for the following species. The list is separated into three sections: Regular (species that are listed on the Regular Checklist, not species that are necessarily regular in occurrence), Provisional (species with fewer than 4 accepted sight records), and Hypothetical (species inadequately documented or the wild status is questionable). The Regular and Provisional categories (see both lists below) are amended annually via this web page, Nov 2023 being the most recent.
The Hypothetical category is described as any species not previously recorded in the State of Georgia, or those which appear in the Hypothetical section of the Annotated Checklist of Georgia Birds (Occasional Publication No. 14, Georgia Ornithological Society, 2003).
Taxonomic order for the following lists is based on the American Ornithologists' Society's (formerly the American Ornithologists' Union) The A.O.U. Check-list of North American Birds, 7th Edition (1998), incorporates changes made in the 42nd, 43rd, 44th, 45th, 46th, 47th, 48th, 49th, 50th, 51st, 52nd, 53rd, 54th, 55th, 56th, 57th, 58th, 59th, 60th, and 61st, 62nd, and 63rd Supplements to the Check-list, as published in The Auk 117: 847-858 (2000); 119:897-906 (2002); 120:923-932 (2003); 121:985-995 (2004); 122:1026-1031 (2005); 123:926-936 (2006); 124:1109–1115 (2007); 125(3):758–768 (2008); 126(3):705−714 (2009); 127(3):726−744 (2010); 128(3):600-613 (2011); 129(3):573-588 (2012); 130(3):558−571 (2013); 131(4):CSi-CSxv (2014); 132:748-764 (2015); 133:544-560 (2016); 134:751-773 (2017); 135:798-813 (2018); 136:1-23 (2019); and 137:1-24 (2020), and incorporates changes made in the 62nd, 63rd, and 64th Supplements to the Check-list, as published in Ornithology 138:1-18 (2021); 139:1-13 (2022); and 140:1-11 (2023)
